The Bushwick Book Club Seattle presents an evening of original music and performance inspired by Katherine Dunn’s freak show classic Geek Love on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the Tractor Tavern: 7:30pm. Advance tickets available through TicketWeb.
Geek Love is Katherine Dunn’s award-winning, pathbreaking story of a family of circus performers. When first published in 1989, Dunn hadn’t released a full-length book in nearly two decades. Publishers Weekly prophetically called Geek Love “a novel that everyone will be talking about, a brilliant, suspenseful, heartbreaking tour de force.” Musician Flea later raved: “Certain books are so imaginative that they suck you into a world that you’d never known existed.” Dunn passed away in Portland, OR, in 2016.
In seven-plus seasons, The Bushwick Book Club Seattle has hosted over 300 individual performers writing and debuting original music inspired by literature. Featured performers for this event include Leslie Braly, Katrina Kope, Ben Mish, Tai Shan, Aaron Starkey, Mike Votava, Michael Wallenfels (also the artist behind Bushwick’s poster designs), and Jon Yoon, with special appearances from comedian Emmett Montgomery and showgirl scholar Sailor St Claire. “New and innovative work that surprises and delights,” is how one local author describes the Bushwick experience, while another librarian calls it “a brilliant way to expand anyone’s appreciation of words.”
Expect a full music-and-art circus from the Geek Love lineup!
