Original music inspired by Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Talents
Saturday, April 20th at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute.
Guest Curator: KEXP’s DJ Riz Rollins
Presenting Partner: Town Hall Seattle
A Seattle treasure, Butler’s eerily-prescient follow-up to Parable of the Sower (featured in 2018).
Original music inspired by Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Talents is our event. The program itself will shine a light on a celebrated African American author, and can introduce not only this author, but the joy of reading to a new audience. We will also feature African American musicians and artists in our program. Hosted by Riz Rollins who will guide us through a night of music inspired by the book.
Performers include: Reggie Garrett, Tiffany Wilson, Om Johari, Lavon Hardison, JR Rhodes, Okanomode, Nikkita Oliver, Arthur James and JusMoni.
This program will not only feature a powerful African American author, Octavia Butler, but an exciting cast of local musicians. We are proud to work with so many talented musicians, to participate in our diverse Seattle community and open eyes to new art forms.
